Canvas: Outlook Displays Incorrect Aliases (Known Issue)


This article describes a known issue with Outlook as it pertains to displaying usernames. 


Outlook saves an alias/name to display for a certain email address based on past conversations. In the case of Canvas notifications they all come from a single address, although many different people send them. Usually, the alias of the first person to respond to a message from Canvas will be the alias Outlook associates with all subsequent Canvas notifications. You can delete these saved contacts/auto-complete entries in Outlook, but they will continue to re-populate. The subject of the message will always have the correct sender's name and if you view the email using the USNH App on a mobile device or using the Outlook Web App (  you should not see the incorrect alias.

  • Microsoft Outlook

Resolution or Workaround

  • Disregard the name of the sender in the message pane. Look in the subject/body of the message.
