SPSS Licensing

There are two options for licensing SPSS. We recommend users use the first option, to use a network concurrent license server to activate their copy of SPSS.  The other option is to use a personal license code.

NOTE: If you are running Mac OS we Recommend requesting a personal license code (instructions below).

Recommended option: Network concurrent license server

You will setup your computer to check in with a central license server on the network to obtain a license each time the program runs. This means that you must be connected to the VPN service whenever you use SPSS. Once this is setup, though, you will never have to modify the configuration again for that version of SPSS. There are unlimited licenses available from the license server so you will never have to wait for a license to be available.

For computer labs or other situations where computers are on the campus network permanently, this is the only solution that is supported.

To setup your computer to use the network concurrent license server:

1. If not already running, launch the SPSS License Authorization Wizard tool.  If you are on a Windows computer, we recommend you run this tool by right-clicking on it and selecting Run as Administrator to make sure that the tool has the necessary access to save the changes made.
2. Proceed through it, clicking Next.
3. When prompted, select the Concurrent user license option and click Next.
4. Enter academic.unh.edu as the License Manager and continue through the rest of the tool.
5. At this point, SPSS will check in with our license server each time you launch the program.  Just be sure to be connected to the VPN network before you launch SPSS.

If you are a graduate student, undergraduate student, or anyone else, and need a personal code, you can submit a request.  Once your request has been reviewed, someone will follow up with further instructions.

Once you have the personal license code, you can activate SPSS as follows:

  1. You will need to have an active Internet connection at the time you go through the activation process.  Be sure you are connected to the Internet.
  2. If not already running, launch the SPSS License Authorization Wizard tool.  If you are on a Windows computer, we recommend you run this tool by right-clicking on it and selecting Run as Administrator to make sure that the tool has the necessary access to save the changes made.
  3. Proceed through it, clicking Next.
  4. When prompted, select the Authorized user license option and click Next.
  5. Copy/paste the activation code from the form into the Enter code: field and click Next.
  6. Continue through the rest of the tool to activate SPSS.
