Microsoft Services Update - FAQ

Starting on Thursday, April 8 at 11:30 PM through 11:30 PM on Saturday, April 10, Microsoft will perform updates that will affect access to your files on Microsoft OneDriveSharePoint, and Teams. This work will impact all Granite State College (GSC), University of New Hampshire (UNH) students, faculty and staff, and the University System of New Hampshire (USNH) System Office. During the updates, files will be read-only on Microsoft OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams. 

The following is a list of frequently asked questions. We will add to this list as more information becomes available. 

  1. When will the updates occur?  
    Starting at 11:30 pm on Thursday, April 8 until 11:30 pm on Saturday, April 10.  

  2. Who will be impacted by the updates? 
    Granite State College and University of New Hampshire students, faculty, staff, and contractors

  3. What services will the update impact?
    Files stored on OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams will be read-only. Users will not be able to edit and save files on OneDrive, SharePoint or Teams. OneNote will also not be available.

  4. Why is the UNH Microsoft tenant being renamed?
    All USNH institutions currently share one USNH-wide Microsoft Agreement and will soon be joined into a single Microsoft environment on the existing UNH Microsoft tenant. The tenant name will change from Wildcatsunh to UniversitySystemNH to be more inclusive and representative of all USNH institutions: Granite State College, Keene State College, Plymouth State University and UNH. This approach will improve the user experience, improve cybersecurity and positions USNH for the future. 

  5. How can I tell if I have files on OneDrive?   
    1. Go to and login using your GSC or UNH email and password.   
    2. Click on the OneDrive icon in the left-hand menu.   
    3. Your saved files will appear on this page.

  6. I need to work on my files during this time. How can I do that?  
    You should download your files from OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams prior to time.  
    1. Go to using your GSC or UNH email and password.  
    2. Click on the OneDrive icon in the left-hand menu.  
    3. Click next to the file or folder you want to download.   
    4. Click on the ellipsis icon (three dots) and choose Download.   
    5. This will download the file into your browser and also in your Downloads folder on your computer.

  10. What changes can I expect after the updates?
    In the days immediately following the completion of these updates (up to 72 hours), you may experience slow or incomplete searches on Microsoft SharePoint, OneDrive and Teams, as searches are reindexed. Pinned and recent files may no longer appear in your Microsoft applications. 

  11. Will email and calendars be impacted?

  14. Will my teams files work after the rename?
    The files tab will need to be re-synced.
    To do this:
    Open Files in a Teams Channel > Click on Posts or a new Tab > reopen the files tab

  15. Will Microsoft Forms still work?
    Yes, Microsoft Forms will continue to work. There may some delay with file uploads. These are expected to self-heal, the time frame is 24-48 hours. If you need these files sooner, please put in a ticket and we will send instructions. 

  16. It's after the rename - I'm seeing "Something went wrong" when I try to access my OneDrive in a web browser!
    You may need to clear the browser cache and cookies for your OneDrive site - You can see this ET&S KB article on how to do this: Clear your Browser Cache. After cookies are cleared, you should be redirected properly.
