Microsoft Migration FAQ

Enterprise Technology and Services is working to merge Microsoft applications across all University System of New Hampshire campuses in an effort to improve communication, collaboration, and enhance our ability to work across the University System of NH. 

What do I need to do to prepare for migration?

Will my calendar be impacted by the migration?  

  • All your meetings will be synchronized; however, as the new email account is different from your previous account, it is strongly encouraged to recreate any recurring meetings as these will not be updateable, or changeable. (A detailed guide on how to do this will be coming soon.)

What will happen to my MS Teams?

  • If you use MS Teams, all of your Teams content, files and settings will be migrated.  The only exception is your chat history cannot be migrated.   
  • If  your chat history is important to keep for your records, please go into Teams and copy the content into a file (e.g. Word document) and save it to your computer no later than Sunday, February 21.

What will happen to my filter rules?

  • Your rules will move, however it is highly recommended to export your rules if you have a lot of them set up. 

What changes will I have to make to my Outlook calendar after the transition?  

  • If you are an “invitee” – No Action is required.
  • If you are a “meeting organizer”, you will need to update all your organized meetings so they come from your new email account. This is a critical step. Any changes you make from your new calendar to invitations that were carried over from your old calendar will not be communicated to the invitees.  

Students, Faculty and Staff:

Will I lose any email or files?  

How long will it take before I start to see new email?  

  • It may take up to 72 hours for your mailbox to fully populate if it contains a lot of email content. 
  • Your desktop application (Outlook) may not appear the same as your online mailbox. You can access your Email on the web  by navigating to https://outlook.com/granite.edu in any Web Browser.

Do I still use my current GSC login for applications?  

  • Yes. Continue to log into all your applications with your current GSC log in. Only your email reply address has changed.  

Will email sent to my old @go.granite.edu email address be forwarded to my new address?  

  • Yes, all mail to your old email address will be delivered to your new address.  Email forwards will be preserved for students and will be removed for employees.  

What if I use my “go.granite” email to access external websites or systems?

  • If you created an account using your go.granite email address on an external website that requires you to enter your email when you sign in (such as Asana, Flipgrid, or Spotify), these external websites will continue to recognize your “old” email address. Email messages will forward to your new address; however, you may want to manually update your email address within these systems so it reflects your new address. As always, be sure to follow password best practices and use a strong, unique password for each account.

Issues opening email in Windows Mail?

  • It is not recommended to use Windows Mail, if issues persist use the Outlook mail client/app.

Faculty and Staff:

Will my delegates be able to access my mailbox after the migration?  

  • Yes, we will be migrating you and your delegate(s) simultaneously.  

I am unable to access my VPN post-migration. What should I do?  

  • Please re-boot your machine. The email migration should not affect VPN access. If you are still unable to access the VPN after an hour, please submit a Help Desk ticket.

Will I be able to access my shared mailbox(s) in the new domain?  

  • Yes. Shared mailboxes will be migrated at the same time their users are migrated.  

Will my new email be added to distribution lists as part of this migration?  

  • Yes, you will continue to receive emails from the distribution lists you were a part of.  

When completing the migration, do I have to verify that all applications work?  

  • No. Please verify that you can log in and access only the applications that apply to you and your job duties.   

How do meeting organizers delete and recreate existing meetings?  

  1. After the transition is complete, open your new calendar.  
  2. Create duplicate meeting invitations (with the new information , if applicable). Send the invites to the people you invited to those meetings initially. This will create a new meeting invitation in your new calendar, with the correct information, if applicable.  
  3. Delete the original meeting from your new calendar.  
  4. Open Outlook, delete your original meeting invitations. This will remove the old invitations from the calendars of your attendees. For more detailed instructions, please refer to your Outlook Email Migration Tutorial.  

How will scheduling meetings be affected by email migration?  

  • To see calendar availability (free/busy/out of office etc.) for migrated contacts, look them up by their new email address.  
  • After all the users have migrated you will be able to view availability for all contacts.  
  • Migrated users should specify that their email address has changed in their signatures, to inform their contacts.
