Faculty and Staff: How to change your UNH Password from home (remote)

Note: These instructions are intended for all USNH faculty and staff using a Windows Desktop or Laptop. MacOS users will use the same password change process, but do not need to lock and unlock the device. Also note that these instructions can be performed from any location not on Campus.

 

You may change your password at any time, but UNH IT Password policy requires a change once per year. Certain circumstances may force you to change your password earlier, like a phishing scam.

 

  1. Open a browser (Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox) and type in unh.edu/it/loginhelp into the address bar.
  2. Click on Change Your Password under the red Identity and Access Management banner
  3. Enter your username and current password into the two fields on the main page, helpfully called Username and Current Password, then click Next
    • If you get an error of “Either the username or password you have entered is incorrect”, check the spelling and case of the username, and retype your password.
    • If you fail to verify your current password, see the
      “Resetting your UNH password” section below
  4. The Creating a New Password page will open. Please read the basic guidelines section carefully and completely, as our password policy has changed
  5. Enter your new password in the Proposed Password field and click Next
  6. If your proposed password meets UNH password criteria, you will receive the message “Very good. You have proposed an acceptable new password.” And will be prompted to make the password official
    • If you get an error, try again, following the basic guidelines
  7. Enter your username and current password (not your proposed password, but the one you are attempting to change) into the Username and Current Password fields, then add the new password in the Your New Password, and then again in the Retype Your New Password field and click Next
  8. If you see “Success – You now have a new password!” your password has been successfully changed. MacOS users can stop here.
  9. Connect to VPN (if you are already connected, disconnect then reconnect with your new password).
  10. Once connected, press CTRL+ALT+DEL (or press the Windows Key and L). If you are prompted to select an option, select Lock this Computer.
  11. Wait a few minutes, then press CTRL+ALT+DEL, or click Unlock this Computer to unlock
  12. At the password prompt, enter in your new password and press the Enter Key

 

If you cannot change your password because you cannot get past step 4, click on Reset Your UNH Password on the left-side of the page. You will need your username and USNH ID Number to continue. If you do not have the ID number, call the USNH Service Desk at 603 862 4242
