EAB: Navigate - Kiosk Mode

Task: This article will talk about the use and functionality of the kiosk mode within Navigate.  Kiosk Mode allows advising centers to incorporate a check in option for students to either enter in their Student ID or swipe their Student ID card to check them into a center or event.

For advising centers that provide Drop-in options the Kiosk function within Navigate allows those centers to set up a kiosk type computer where students can either enter in their IDs manually or swipe their ID to check them into a center.  This allows students to check in for first available or specific advisors within the center.

For those teams on campus that may run events through the course of the year to which they want to capture attendance, they can use the Kiosk mode to do so.  Behind the scenes the administrators can create a service that allows for swipe check in, this way as students enter the event they can swipe their ID card, the system records their attendance and it can then be reported.

To Use the Kiosk for Checking Students into a Center:

Please contact Teaching and Learning Technologies for a USB card reader that connects to a computer and allows students to swipe their IDs.

  1. Once logged in, scroll all the way to the bottom of the page
  2. On the right hand side click Additional Modes
  3. Then select Kiosk

Kiosk selection under Additional Modes

  1. From the list of locations choose the location to which you want to use the Kiosk
  2. Once selected the system will log the user out of the system behind this Kiosk window.  This prevents students from minimizing the Kiosk and gaining access to other student information.
  3. Select the service you would like to run
    1. If there are more than a single service for this location the system will allow the user to start the kiosk for "All Services"
  4. The system is now set up to record students checking in for that location and service

  1. If the Center has a Drop-in option and the student selects that they will be presented with the following screen.

Drop-in option screen with two separate options

  1.  Choose to "Wait For a Specific Person" the student will then be presented with a list of advisors that have Availability set up for this time frame.
    1. NOTE:  The system will only show advisors that have availability for the specific time frame to which the student is attempting to check in
  2. Choose to "Wait for the First Available Person" this will drop the student into a queue and any advisor with "Drop-in" availability will be notified by the system that a student is waiting for the first available advisor.

To Use the Kiosk for Checking Students into an Event:

  1. Follow the steps 1-5 as outlined above
  2. When selecting a location that has been set up to Record a Visit or names "Check In" the system will launch the Kiosk window
  3. As students swipe in for enter their ID manually the system will provide them with a confirmation as seen below and the student can click, "Okay, got it!"

When using the system to check into an event, multiple computers can be used in order to limit wait times for check-in.  Each computer used will need a different user to sign into mWS.  The system prevents simultaneous log-ins by the same user.

Users can expect to understand how to use Kiosk Mode within Navigate.
