What is a Technology Purchase?

Define a Technology Purchase

Technology is defined as any hardware, software, and/or software as a service (SaaS) which will connect to the university network, access, collect or store University data.

Hardware is any physical component of a technology system. Hardware is a physical device which can directly access the network or store data. Examples include computers, laptops, servers, phones, tablets, kiosks, bar scanners, cameras, machinery and equipment.

Software is an application installed on a computer, server, or other hardware device. This includes more than just desktop or server software. For example, software to manage a security camera system, or process payments on vending machines.

Software as a Service (SaaS) aka Cloud applications is a software distribution model in which the provider hosts the software and makes it available to customers over the Internet. Most online subscription services are hosted in the Cloud and delivered via the internet.
